Mary Iron Cloud Award

In Seventh Circuit CASA’s infancy, Mary Iron Cloud became the first Native American Court Appointed Special Advocate in 1992. Over the eight week period she traveled over 1,280 miles to attend trainings. Mary was a representative for Native peoples at CASA, at events, and in the courtroom. Even when she was sick with cancer, she would attend court via the phone.

The first award was given to the Iron Cloud family in 1996 after Mary’s passing, this award is presented each year in her honor.
